Below is an essay from Julie, a fifth grade returnee, in which she discusses Kreacher, Harry Potter's house elf:
Kreacher is an excellent servant. He is very loyal, so when Regulus died and when he thinks about it, he stops cleaning.
As a house elf, he is a slave. He cleans the house. Also, he follows orders, but if he does not, he punishes himself. Plus he punishes himself if he does something wrong or something bad. If his master tells him to do something he does it and if he does not do it, he punishes himself. To impress his master, he wants to be perfect. Besides, he is cute and loyal.
Kreacher is special among house elves. He loves his family so much. For his former master Regulus, he goes with Voldemort, and he drinks terrible potion and feels that he is burning and dying. When Regulus and his mother die, he stops cleaning, which is not normal for house elves. He is a bad servant at that time.
For his master Harry Potter, he tells the story about Regulus and how he died and then he cries. Then Harry Potter gives Regulus’s locket to Kreacher. He is half happy and half sad. After that he starts to clean the house. He cooks. AND he fights against Voldemort for Harry Potter who is his master right now and Regulus who was an old master.
He is a good servant after all.
